APPLICATIONS
A new generative AI tool called Stable Diffusion
Stability AI just released a new generative AI model called Stable Diffusion. It's a text-to-image model that can generate stunning art. The code is available here. The weights are available here. It’s an interesting development in this field. Read more
AI system that predicts cardiac arrests up to 10 years ahead
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University have developed an AI system that can predict the occurrence of a cardiac arrest based on imaging scans of the heart. Their algorithm is built to assess scar patterns in a patient's heart tissue. It can predict life-threatening arrhythmias more accurately than doctors can. And it can do it 10 years ahead of time. This can help the patient address the issue and start preventive care. Read more
Meta AI releases a new framework for 3D representations
Meta AI just released a new framework called Implicitron. It's a modular framework within their open source PyTorch3D library. This approach represents objects as a continuous function as opposed to traditional approaches e.g. meshes, point clouds. This allows for more accurate reconstruction of shapes and colors. Read more
Hugging Face introduces a new library called Skops
With this new library, you can host your scikit-learn models on the Hugging Face Hub. You can create model cards for model documentation and collaborate with your teammates. Read more
RESEARCH
Google introduces a new approach for video question-answering
Google has introduced a new approach to video-text learning called Iterative Co-tokenization. Let's say there's a video that shows a chef preparing a dish. With this system, you can ask a question like "What is the second ingredient poured into the bowl?" and it will provide an answer. It can learn concepts based on a video and answer text-based questions. Read more
Researchers use AI to simulate the initial steps of ice formation
Researchers at Princeton University have accurately simulated the initial steps of ice formation using AI. They use AI to solve the equations that govern the quantum behavior of individual atoms and molecules. The resulting simulation shows how water molecules transition into solid ice. Read more
